Our Story
Grief Literacy Coach, Author, Speaker, and passionate advocate for transforming grief into grace.
Alicia will always be my first blessing. From the moment I held her, she changed my life in ways I could never have imagined, filling it with love and a sense of purpose.
As Alicia grew, I began to notice subtle signs that something wasn't quite right. She would have episodes of gagging, vomiting, and sometimes diarrhea, which led me to take her back and forth to hospitals, searching for answers. There were times I left one hospital only to go straight to another, desperate for someone to see what I was seeing. By the time physicians examined her, her symptoms would often fade, leaving no clear explanation. It was as if the internal struggle she was facing eased just long enough for her to return to her cheerful, playful self — and we were left without the answers we so desperately needed.
When Alicia was a year and a half, everything changed. She experienced another episode, but this time she became lethargic. That alarming shift caused doctors to look deeper—and they discovered a severe condition that required removing more than 90% of her intestines. I was told she would never eat food again and would need intravenous feedings for the rest of her life.
From that moment on, our lives became a rhythm of hospital stays, connecting and disconnecting i-med machines, and flushing tubing to keep it from clogging. I cherished every moment with her, clinging to hope and trusting God to do what only He could—restore her health and bring about a miracle.
Eventually, Alicia slipped into a coma and later passed away from complications related to Short Bowel Syndrome. Losing her shattered me, but her life planted the seed for everything I do today.
From Grief to Grace
What helped me begin to heal was transparency—being honest about how much I was hurting instead of hiding behind strength. That honesty became the doorway to my journey away from grief. Over time, I realized grief touches every part of life. It isn't only about death—it can also come from the loss of health, relationships, or dreams we once held. Most people carry it silently, just as I did, until it spills over into families, workplaces, and health.
Out of that realization came a passion to help others. I dedicated myself to understanding the fear that often surrounds communication with physicians, the weight of grief after losing a child, and the emotional challenges families face during medical crises.
This passion led me to create PDM Journey Coaching, LLC, and later A Pathway From Grief, Inc., so I could walk alongside people through grief, parenting challenges, and the struggles of caregiving. Along the way, I developed the Grief-Free Methodology™—a simple yet powerful approach to transitioning from grief to grace to gratitude.
